Practice papers and tests for JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced is the second stage of the Joint Entrance Examination and the entrance route to the IITs. It is set by one of the zonal IITs each year, on rotation. Both papers are compulsory and are sat on the same day. It is a markedly different exam from JEE Main: the questions are longer, multi-step, and often have more than one correct option, so a scattergun approach is punished rather than rewarded.

Duration
3 hours per paper. Two papers on the same day, both compulsory.
Papers
Paper 1 and Paper 2, each covering Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Mode
Computer-based test.

Question formats

  • Single correct option — Four options, exactly one correct
    The largest single group in our archive — 570 of the imported physics questions.
  • One or more correct options — Four options, any number of which may be correct
    258 imported questions. This is the format that most distinguishes Advanced from Main.
  • Numerical value — A number to be entered, no options given
    200 imported questions. Older papers used a single-digit integer; recent papers accept decimals.
  • Matching list — Match List-I to List-II, then choose the correct pairing
    61 imported questions, in two different formats across the years.
  • Comprehension / paragraph — A shared passage followed by several questions
    119 imported questions across 45 passages.

Eligibility and admissions

Conducted by:
One of the zonal IITs each year, on rotation, under the Joint Admission Board.
Eligibility:
Qualifying in JEE Main and placing within that year's cut-off for Advanced.
Attempts:
Limited to consecutive years — check the current brochure for the exact rule.
Both papers:
Compulsory. A candidate absent from either paper is not ranked.

The older IITs

The most sought-after, though a good branch at a newer IIT often beats a poor one here.

Each runs its own admission on top of the JEE Advanced rank, with a separate application. The rank is an input, not an automatic route.

    From 2026 the B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA alongside the IITs; the BS (Research) programme still runs its own admission on JEE Advanced, JEE Main or NEET.

Grouped by band rather than ranked one by one, because the ordering changes yearly and a branch at one institute is often worth more than a seat at a higher-ranked one. Check NIRF and the official counselling data before setting your preferences.
